My split ends had split ends. It’s the only explanation for how fluffy my wild mane looked. I guess that’s what happens when your last haircut was in November 2019. A good haircut was long overdue.
During this pandemic, I’ve been cutting my husband and son’s hair with clippers, but despite my 4-year-old son eagerly volunteering, there didn’t seem to be any simple and safe way to get a haircut. I no longer had a hairstylist (mine had emigrated) and I didn’t want to risk a salon.
Then one day, while scrolling the gram, I watched a reel of a woman cutting her own long hair with hair clippers. She made it look so easy. I looked up ‘how to cut long hair with hair clippers,’ watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and found one that seemed the simplest version to follow.
I was dubious but told myself that hair grows back and truthfully, it couldn’t get any worse. Fortunately, the whole process was easier than I thought. My husband had to help straighten up the back of my hair - it’s the only bit I found hard – but I’m sure that with a better mirror set up it is possible to completely DIY it.
In conclusion, I was pretty chuffed with the results. It’s not the best haircut I have ever had, but I have had worse. It felt great to lose the dry, fluffy ends and take off some heavy length.
Whether you’re playing it safe during the pandemic, and avoiding close contact with people outside of your family, or trying to save a few bucks, here’s the best DIY haircut tutorial I found online...
